Posting on Weibo, the prolific Samsung leaker Ice Universe reveals photographs of a new Galaxy Note 20 smartphone case design which strongly suggests that, as expected, the entry-level Note 20 won’t be getting Samsung’s flagship telephoto lens.
Previous case leaks have already shown us that the Note 20 camera bump is much narrower than that of the massive Note 20 Ultra, but the latest information provides us with significant new details about the Note 20 camera design.
Unlike those previously leaked photos, these latest images reveal a new case that covers the smartphone’s camera bump and provides small, circular cut-outs for each individual lens. The size and positioning of these cut-outs gives us a clear indication of the number and type of lenses installed in the camera module, and there doesn’t appear to be room for a big periscopic lens.
The leaked case design reveals the Galaxy Note 20’s camera layout.
Of the five cut-outs shown, the three largest presumably fit the familiar trio of standard, ultra-wide and telephoto lenses, while two much smaller holes are likely to fit a flash illuminator and a discrete focus-assist device. So far, Samsung’s periscopic lenses have been significantly larger and square rather than round, so this new case simply wouldn’t fit.
All of this confirms that If you want Samsung’s best camera, you’re going to have to pay for the Ultra model. Samsung has a lot riding on the Note 20 launch, which will need to put right the many reported camera problems plaguing the Galaxy S20 Ultra if customer trust is to be maintained.
All will be revealed at this year’s Samsung Unpacked event, scheduled for August 5.
